On April 12, Imtiaz Ali‘s Amar Singh Chamkila, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, will debut on Netflix. The titular singer, who was killed at the age of 27, is the basis for the movie. During a press conference, Diljit discussed the biography and said that he had first doubts about the way the movie would be produced. Because Jodi (2023) is a fictionalized portrayal of Amar Singh Chamkila, the singer-actor disclosed that he was concerned Imtiaz might sue him. Before meeting the filmmaker, Diljit also revealed that he had previously believed that a movie on the renowned Punjabi musician “could not be made in Hindi”.

Dosanjh said, “I thought I knew a lot about Chamkila before meeting him (Imtiaz Ali). When I got to know that a Bollywood film is being made on Chamkila, I thought what (kind) of film will they make. We have made a fictional film Jodi, as we didn’t have the rights. We also wondered how they would make Punjabi songs in Hindi as we can’t recreate it, as we had already made it.”
Ishq Mitaye song:
With the release of the movie’s first song, Ishq Mitaye, on Thursday, Imtiaz Ali’s highly anticipated Netflix movie Chamkila. Combining traditional and new beats, the song Ishq Mitaye attempts to capture the ascent of the Chamkila and his singing partner, Amarjot Kaur, who became his wife later on. The song is composed by AR Rahman and sung by Mohit Chauhan.
The film features Parineeti as Amarjot, Chamkila’s wife. She frequently sang with her husband and was also a talented vocalist. An unsolved 1980s assassination claimed the lives of both Chamkila and Amarjot. The movie’s soundtrack was written by AR Rahman.
