Imtiaz Ali has returned to his latest movie. He began his career in 2005 with a Dharmendra and introduced Abhay Deol to the film industry. He is returning with Amar Singh Chamkila with his 9th movie, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra.

About Amar Singh Chamkila:

Singer Amar Singh Chamkila as born Dhani Ram in a Dalit Sikh family in Punjab, rose to prominence in the 1980s for his raw musicianship and provocative lyrics. His record-breaking songs were concerned with incest and illicit love, but they were also sensitive to rural class dissatisfactions in the toiling North. On March 8, 1988, while exiting his automobile for a concert, he was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Mehsampur. His wife and singing companion, Amarjot, was also slain, along with two other members of his group. Multiple explanations were proposed, but with the state in the midst of a violent insurrection, the case remained unresolved.

Amar Singh Chamkila

Amar Singh Chamkila Review:

An immersive film that brings you back to the time and age of Dhani Ram, also known as Chamkila…! The writing and directing are intricately linked as their lives develop and reemerge on screen. For a biography on a controversial but much-loved and acclaimed performer, it is critical to effortlessly combine the music, including BGM, songs in their respective timelines and sequences.

Diljit as Chamkila:

Diljit Dosanjh portrayed a Chamkila surrogate in the Punjabi film Jodi (2023). His singing abilities come in useful in Ali’s film, which features live recordings of Chamkila’s own compositions. He describes Chamkila as a sweet dreamer who is both diffident and cheerful. It may be a too saccharine performance; the captivating loucheness and scorching burn seen in Chamkila’s eyes in vintage images are strangely absent. Chopra appears in a small role, and there are few notable female roles in the supporting cast, including a replica of Aditi Rao Hydari’s parasite journalist from Rockstar.

Parineeti Chopra has also given a magnificent performance as his wife and duet partner in every scene, transitioning from a bashful performer to his shadow, who supports him in all situations from the front and is his greatest company.Parineeti will work miracles with the right direction and script.

Overview:

Imtiaz Ali’s superb storytelling, mixed with magnificent photography, is a visual feast for the spectator. The themes of love, betrayal, and redemption are brilliantly addressed in “Chamkila,” making it a must-see for every film fan. Overall, it is a success of Indian film that will have a long-lasting influence. Hats go to Diljit Dosanjh for portraying the role of Amar Singh Sandila. Aka CHAMKILA. As he often states in interviews that he is a singer rather than an actor, he has contradicted himself. He is a very skilled actor.
