Anurag Kashyap has confirmed his departure from Bollywood, calling the industry “toxic.” In a recent interview with The Hindu, the director expressed his frustration with Bollywood’s increasing focus on box office numbers and the diminishing space for creative freedom.
The filmmaker opened up about his decision, saying, “I want to stay away from film people. The industry has become too toxic. Everyone is chasing unrealistic targets, trying to make the next Rs 500 or Rs 800 crore film. The creative atmosphere is gone.” Anurag Kashyap exits “Toxic” Bollywood and moves to Bengaluru pointed out that the constant pursuit of huge profits leaves little room for artistic expression, making the industry more about commercial success than innovation.

Kashyap had previously shared his frustrations with The Hollywood Reporter India. He explained that he was fed up with the current state of the Hindi film industry. As a result, he felt the need to escape this environment. This desire led him to relocate to South India. He has now settled in Bengaluru. This move marks a significant shift from the fast-paced life in Mumbai.
In addition to his career shift, Kashyap’s upcoming project is a bilingual film titled Dacoit. In this movie, he plays a cop alongside Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur, who play the lead roles. The film, shot in both Hindi and Telugu, is yet to announce its release date.
Kashyap’s move signals a larger shift in his career and mindset. After years of navigating the toxic atmosphere of Bollywood, he now seeks a fresh start, focusing more on his creativity and stepping away from the pressures of commercial cinema.
