BTS 방탄소년단’s ‘Map Of The Soul: 7’ is the #1 Album of 2020, and tops the United World Year End Chart with an incredible 6,519,000 equivalent sales! ‘Map of the Soul: 7’, was released on February 21, 2020 and went to #1 in over 20 countries, including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Lithuania, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Switzerland, the US and the United Kingdom, with BTS becoming the first Asian group to go to #1 in ALL top five music markets in the world ie. the US, the UK, Japan, Germany, and France! ‘Map of the Soul: 7’ debuted atop the US Billboard 200 with 422,000 album-equivalent units, including 347,000 pure album sales, becoming BTS’s 4th No. 1 album with the highest first-week figures of BTS’s albums in the US so far.
It also marked the biggest first week sales for an album in 2020 until The Weeknd’s ‘After Hours’ was released on March 20. The album’s lead single, “On”, debuted at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 with 86,000 downloads and 18.3 million U.S. streams, marking BTS’ biggest sales week for a song at the time, and their highest charting single so far and 1st top five hit. In November 2020, ‘Map of the Soul: 7’ was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for 1 million album-equivalent units, their 2nd album to be awarded platinum following ‘Love Yourself: Answer’! At the end of 2020, Billboard revealed that ‘Map of the Soul: 7’ ranked at #2 on the year-end list of top-selling albums in the US, according to MRC Data, with 674,009 copies sold, behind Taylor Swift’s ‘folklore’, which sold over 1 million copies. ‘Map of the Soul: 7’ was the No. 1 physical album of the year in America, with 646,000 hard copies sold!

The album debuted atop the Gaon Album Chart, giving BTS their 13th number one, and selling over 2.65 million copies in its first six hours and a record-breaking 3.37 million copies in its first week, achieving the highest first week sales in Hanteo Chart history! In less than 9 days of the album’s release, ‘Map of the Soul: 7’ sold 4.1 million copies in Korea, marking the highest sales achieved by an album in a month and over a single year in the Gaon Album Chart’s history. It is the first Korean album to sell more than 4 million copies since Gaon Chart began and in April, it became the first album certified as “Quadruple Million” by Gaon since their certifications began in 2018. It topped Gaon’s year end album chart with a cumulative 4,376,975 copies sold, marking the 5th consecutive year that BTS had the best-selling album in their home country. BTS became the best-selling artist in South Korea of all time, having sold 20.32 million albums cumulatively.
In the UK, the album debuted atop the Official Albums Chart giving the group their 2nd consecutive number one, selling 36,000 units, with 32,000 pure sales. The album has since been certified Silver by the British Phonographic Industry for over 60,000 units. The album debuted atop the German Albums Chart, making BTS the first Asian group to top the chart! It debuted atop the Irish Albums Chart, making BTS the 1st Korean artist to score a number one in that country. ‘MOTS7′ debuted at #1 on Australia’s ARIA Albums Chart becoming BTS’ 5th Top 10 entry, and their 2nd consecutive number one following ‘Map of the Soul: Persona’. In France, the album debuted at No.1 on the SNEP Albums Chart, selling 23,502 equivalent units, making the group’s 1st number one in that country. In Canada, the album debuted at #1 with 23,000 album-equivalent units, becoming the group’s 3rd chart-topping album following ‘Love Yourself: Answer’ and ‘Map of the Soul: Persona’.
2020 was BTS’ most successful year so far with ‘BE’ scoring 3,362,000 equivalent sales, having been released only a few weeks ago. It comes in 2nd on the United World Year end chart, powered by “Dynamite”, BTS”s biggest hit so far. “Dynamite” topped the United World chart for 9 non-consecutive weeks! “Dynamite” is the Group’s first english language bop and debuted at #1 on Spotify Global with 7.778 million streams, marking the biggest opening-day for a song in 2020. U.S.for 8 weeks, the longest run at #1 in the chart’s short history and topped both Billboard Global charts simultaneously for 4 weeks, the longest double run at #1 since the charts began! In South Korea, “Dynamite” topped the Gaon Digital and streaming charts for 11 non-consecutive weeks, the longest run at the top of all Korean songs in 2020!
