The film centers on a father who, in an attempt to flee the ghosts of his past and the powers that wish him dead, is running with his small infant daughter. In search of a perfect life after leaving behind lies, exploitation, and violence, a desperate man escapes Mumbai with his baby daughter and he must flee into the jungle to Jharkhand, where he was born.
The distance that separates a displaced Dasru from the ruling elite and extends beyond the lens of one man’s survival narrative to the injustices experienced by people who fall between the gaps in wealth, race, and class. Joram analyzes how desperation may be sparked by poverty, corruption, dispossession, and grief in an unapologetic manner.
Manoj Bajpayee, the extraordinary genius, braved terrible temperatures in the iron ore mines of Jharkhand to create his survival thriller, “Joram”. After the pandemic caused an initial delay, the team arrived in May to find temperatures reaching 51–52 degrees in the sweltering state of Jharkhand. The team accepted the task despite the dire circumstances, emulating the tenacity of the miners they were portraying.
