Kolkata doctor rape-murder case: Along with forensic and medical professionals, a specialized team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) came in Kolkata on Wednesday to start looking into the claims of rape and killing of a junior doctor at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital. This comes after the Calcutta High Court decided on Tuesday to send the case to the CBI, citing the local police investigation’s lack of substantial progress.

Kolkata doctor rape-murder case:

Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal expressed her displeasure with the investigation’s speed and threatened to turn the matter over to the CBI if the Kolkata police could not close it by Sunday. Banerjee’s comments came after a meeting with the victim’s relatives.

Five days before the Chief Minister’s deadline for the police, the Calcutta High Court intervened and ordered that the case be transferred straight to the central agency. It was unusual for a court to order a case transfer during the first hearing on the matter.

Sanjy Roy, the primary culprit who was detained for allegedly raping and killing a trainee doctor in Kolkata, was married four times. Reports state that his “misconduct” caused three of his former marriages to leave him.

According to Roy’s neighbors, his fourth wife passed away from cancer last year. Malati Roy, Roy’s mother, disputed the accusations made against her son. She told Times of India, “I have been in trouble ever since I gave birth to my son.” She was adamant that her kid was incapable of doing such a thing, though. Malati claimed that Roy had last been to his family around Holi.
