Businessman Raj Kundra, husband of actress ShilpaShetty, was arrested on Monday by the Mumbai police for alleged creation of pornographic films and publishing them through some apps.
He has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology (IT) Act i.eIPC Sections 420 (cheating), 34 (common intention), 292 and 293 (related to obscene and indecent advertisements and displays), and relevant sections of the IT Act and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, the official said.
According to the statement of HemantNagrale, Commissioner of Mumbai Police.“There was a case registered with Crime Branch Mumbai in February 2021 about creation of pornographic films and publishing them through some apps. We’ve arrested Mr Raj Kundra in this case on 19/7/21 as he appears to be the key conspirator of this. We have sufficient evidences regarding this. Investigation is in progress”
A tweet by ANI on its official Twitter handle read, “Businessman Raj Kundra has been arrested by the Crime Branch in a case relating to creation of pornographic films & publishing them through some apps. Till now, 12 accused have been arrested in this case, including Raj Kundra.
The case was registered by a woman against Raj Kundra, on February 4 at the Malwani police station in Suburban Mumbai and made certain allegations in her complaint, another official said. ” Based on that, the case was later transferred to the Crime Branch. Earlier also, we had registered cases related to pornography in which an actress and some other persons were made accused,” he said.
“We will conduct a probe into the case against Raj Kundra and find out if there is any link between this and pornography cases which we had registered earlier,” the official said.
According to Mumbai Police sources, Raj Kundra had invested around ₹8 to ₹10 crores in this porn industry. Raj Kundra and his brother living in Britain together formed a company, named Kenrin. The videos were shot in India and were then transferred to the UK via WeTransfer to Kenrin, a UK Based firm The police have arrested a total of 12 accused in this case, including Kundra.
One of the accused from Vashi, Navi Mumbai, Umesh Kamat was earlier arrested by a property cell. Kamat claimed that he used to work in the company of Kundra and as a coordinator in Kenrin. Police also claimed,Kamat during the interrogation told that he used to take obscene videos from model and actress GehanaVasisth and forward those videos to Kenrin that later used to upload them on an app called ‘hotshots’.

In March, 2020, both Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra were named in an alleged scam concerning the Satyug Gold Pvt. Ltd, they were the ex-directors of this gold trading company.
In 2019, the ED had summoned Raj Kundra in connection with its money laundering probe against late gangster Iqbal Mirchi and others. The central probe agency was looking at Kundra’s purported dealings with Ranjeet Bindra and a firm called Bastian Hospitality in connection with the case.
In 2013, Raj was questioned by the Delhi Police in connection with the betting and spot-fixing scandal that engulfed Indian cricket.
