Honey Singh, whose real name is Hirdesh Singh, but is better known by his stage name “Yo Yo Honey Singh”, is an Indian music producer, pop singer, composer, rapper, lyricist and film actor. Yo Yo Honey Singh is known for his unique style, catchy tunes, and ability to create music that resonates with a wide audience. Honey Singh is also known as “Bluetooth King”. Early Life:

Yo Yo Honey Singh was born on March 15, 1983, in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India. His father’s name is Sardar Sarabjit Singh and mother’s name Bhupinder Kaur. He has a sister name Sneha Singh.

Honey Singh was raised in a Sikh family in Hoshiarpur, Punjab. Later, he moved to Delhi where he completed his schooling from Guru Nanak Public School, Punjabi Bagh. His real passion for music started during his college days, where he started performing at various events and parties. After that he went on to pursue a degree in music from the ‘Trinity School of Music’ in United Kingdom.

When he was young, he began to perform religious songs in Gurudwaras. He used to perform there while playing the Tabla. He gradually began to become interested in music.

Personal Life:

On January 23, 2011, Honey Singh secretly wed Shalini Talwar, his childhood girlfriend. They both attended the same school in New Delhi where they both studied, and they stayed in touch even when he relocated to the UK to further his education further. The two agreed to get married when he got back. On the Indian television program “India’s Raw Star”, the rapper initially revealed his wife in 2014. In 2022, he separated from his wife Shalini.

Career Beginnings:

Honey Singh once observed young children listening to songs by Enrique and Akon, two well-known artists. The Kids, however, could not comprehend. From this, he developed the concept of blending hip hop with pop. He spoke with music production while writing several tracks. Honey Singh’s music was rejected by the music production since it was novel and had a slim probability of being successful. 

In 2005, Honey Singh attended a recording in Delhi where he met singer “Ashok Mastie” (a Punjabi singer). At the time, Ashok Mastie was working on one album. One Scratch was then persuaded to listen to Honey Singh. Ashok Mastie did not enjoy the Scratch. Honey Singh is called by Ashok Mastie once more. The song “Glassy” was subsequently created by Honey Singh and Ashok Mastie. The public responded favorably to this song. In 2009, Honey Singh worked with a well-known Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh’ for the Punjabi music album “The Next Level”, which has songs like “Panga”, “Los Angeles LA”, and “Ru Ba Ru”.

In 2011, A new Punjabi song called “Lak 28 Kudi Da” was released by Honey Singh and Diljit Dosanjh. The song became popular right away and peaked at number one on the “BBC Asian Download Chart”.

In 2011, He contributed as a song producer to the Punjabi artist Alfaaz’s album “Alfaaz- The Boy Next Door.” The audience took a particular liking to the songs “Haye Mera Dil” and “Yaar Bathere”.

In 2011, Honey Singh released another Punjabi music album named “International Villager”. The album’s hit tracks, including “Brown Rang”, “Angreji Beat”(Gippy Grewal) and “Dope Shope”(Deep Money) became chartbusters and making him a household name. “Goliyan”(Diljit Dosanjh) and “Gabru”(J-Star) are among the additional songs on the album.

In 2012, The most-watched YouTube video was the music clip “Brown Rang”. The Punjabi song “High Heels”, which was a huge hit, was a collaboration between Honey Singh and Punjabi singer ‘Jaz Dhami’ in the same year. “Siftan”(2012) was a hit track of Honey Singh and Money Aujla.

In 2013, Honey also collaborated with Punjabi singer Jazzy B in the song “This Party Getting Hot”.

His upcoming song is “Kalaastar”, which is the second version of his song “Desi Kalakaar”.

Bollywood Success:

Honey Singh’s success extended to Bollywood, where he became a sought-after music producer and singer. He created chart-topping songs for numerous Bollywood films, including “Lungi Dance” for the film “Chennai Express” and “Party All Night” for “Boss.” His Punjabi song “Angreji Beat” was also included the Hindi movie “Cocktail”. “High Heels” song also in the Hindi movie “Ki & Ka”. Controversies:

Honey Singh faced criticism for the explicit lyrics in some of his songs, which led to debates about the portrayal of women in popular music. Due to health issues, he took a break from the music industry in 2014. This led to debates about the content and impact of his music on society.

An online campaign against him for his women-shaming songs was initiated in 2012 following the Delhi gang rape case.

A complaint was made against him in 2013 because of his song “Main Hun Balatkari”. However, Honey Singh disputed performing the offensive song. In an Interview, He said,

“The person, who has sung this song and uploaded it on the internet portal should be prosecuted for the wrong done by him and in this regard, the responsibility of the internet portal should also be fixed, in case they have acted in contravention of the provisions of law”.

Health Issues:

In 2014, Honey Singh took a break from the music industry due to health issues, including stress and alcohol addiction. He disappeared from the public eye for several years, focusing on his recovery. In an interview, Honey Singh revealed that he was suffering from bipolar disorder. He said,

“I didn’t come out of my room, forget stepping out of the house. I had a beard and I didn’t get a haircut for months. For someone who has performed in front of a crowd of 20,000, I was scared of facing 4-5 people”.
